RTI is seeking a Scientific Writer and Editor to provide support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Center for Global Health, Division of Global Health Protection’s (DGHP) Science Services Team. This position is based in Atlanta and work may need to be conducted onsite at CDC facilities.

We are seeking a new member to join our exciting, fast-paced project supporting DGHP’s Science Services team. This team member will provide much needed support to increase the quality of scientific writing within DGHP by assisting authors with preparing, drafting, and finalizing manuscripts for scientific publications. Additionally, they will work with DGHP to plan, coordinate and conduct scientific writing workshops, especially for authors where English is a second language.


Monitor manuscript submissions, collect data on acceptance and rejections and critique from journal editors, and prepare quarterly reports
Conduct training sessions on how to organize, draft and develop manuscripts as part of a pre-clearance process
Provide monthly reports summarizing manuscript development support and technical assistance provided
Provide bi-annual reports summarizing science writing sessions/workshops conducted


At least 1 year scientific writing and editing experience
Second language such as French, Spanish, or Arabic

Preferred skills and experience, but not necessary or required:

Experience working with CDC and security clearance with CDC preferred.
Working knowledge of CDCs clearance systems (STARS/eClearance routing) preferred
Ability to obtain proper security clearances as noted by contracts; government security clearance preferred.
Publication and oral presentation record
Familiarity with public health surveillance systems and training, medical and laboratory sciences and infectious/non-communication disease science and public health emergency response nomenclature
Familiarity with currently acceptable scientific publishing and communication practices, e.g., data visualization in scientific manuscripts and presentations.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below. Our pay ranges represent national averages and may vary by location as a geographic differential may be applied to some locations within the United States.
