Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of Peer Tutors:
Oversees daily operations of the Learning Commons.
Monitors Learning Commons tutor salary budget.
Participates in the recruitment and hiring of peer tutors annually.
Supervises up to 100 peer tutors (student employees), provides orientation and training, assigns tasks, schedules work shifts, monitors attendance and work quality, and addresses issues as needed.
Supervision of Support Staff:
Supervises and coaches Learning Commons administrative staff; provides input in annual performance evaluations of staff to Operations Manager.
Oversees daily operations; creates and maintains schedules, attendance reports, timesheets, and arranges back-up for absences.
Monitors non-salary budgets and expenditures; ensures that Learning Commons faculty and staff work within budgetary limits.
Participates in recruitment and selection of Learning Commons non-voting faculty and staff as needed.
Monitors day-to-day operation of online tutor tracking system and related submodules.
Liaises with various departments to streamline support for students with special needs and students at risk of failing.
Creates and distributes statistical reports, user surveys, manuals, and annual reports.
Develops and maintains process improvements of Learning Commons operations.
Documents and updates business processes in the Learning Commons procedures manual.
Creates content for the Library or Learning Commons social media channels and BCIT communication channels.
Oversees writing, organization, and maintenance of the Learning Commons website.
In collaboration with Marketing Specialist, arranges for participation of Learning Commons at Institute events. Provides event coordination support as needed.
Other:
Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade for this position.
Evening and weekend work may be required.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of specialized training program of up to two years’ duration in Business Administration.
Two years of general experience plus up to four years of practical experience in a similar position in a post secondary environment.
Supervisor and leadership experience.
Intermediate knowledge and experience of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Working knowledge of desktop publishing, web content management software and e-mail.
Willingness and ability to learn and use new computer technologies and software.
Knowledge of a tutor management system.
Ability to use and train the learning content system such as the Learning Hub.
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal effectively with a diverse range of students, staff, and faculty.
Proven ability to write in a clear and concise manner, and edit and proofread a variety of materials and media.
Proven ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Must be able to deal with situations with tact, discretion, and confidentiality.
A strong customer service orientation and a commitment to high standards of quality.
Keyboard skills of 50 wpm.
Flexible, self-directed and detail-oriented with proven ability to meet changing priorities.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, coordination and follow-up skills.
Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and respond to multiple queries and demands.
Experience working within a high-functioning team.
Ability to make responsible decisions independently and as a team member.
Creative thinking skills with the ability to design and produce effective visual displays.

Salary Range Pay Grade 8; $53,679 to $58,354 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with progression to the maximum. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
