Our client is seeking a Lead Level Designer to oversee, manage, and mentor a team of level designers for an unannounced project. The successful candidate will help ensure the gameplay within levels mirrors the vision of the game and utilises its mechanics.

Their studio based in central Uppsala, Sweden which is a small and vibrant city 30 minutes north of Stockholm with a historical heritage reaching back to pre-medieval times. It also has the oldest and one of the largest universities in northern Europe.

This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible. They will support your relocation and/or application for work permit if you have a non-EU passport and/or not currently residing in Sweden.

REQUIREMENTS:

Extensive professional experience in games development as a level designer, having shipped at least one successful title as a senior or lead

Solid grasp of level design principles and theory

Strong knowledge and experience with level editors such as Unreal Level Editor, Sandbox Editor, Hammer, etc.

Professional experience with scripting and/or programming

Passionate about FPS games

Holds an upbeat, enthusiastic, and team-oriented attitude

Great English language skills, both verbal and written

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Keeping up to date with the whole vision of the game, taking charge over level design and driving collaboration between multiple disciplines including level designers, environment artists, and game designers

Collaborate with the directors to assist in defining the high-level direction for mission design and help in conveying the vision to the team

Help in producing and maintaining level design documentation

Manage the creation of level layouts and 3D block-outs for in-engine play-testing, concentrating on pacing, narrative integration, and flow

Monitor level construction metrics and help ensure they are conveyed and respected from block-out to final

Work to ensure that ongoing level design work supports the game’s design, narrative, art, and technical requirements

Mentor designers and environment artists in level design areas

Collaborate with each discipline to integrate and iterate on level content

Collaborate with each discipline to create content integration tools, technology, and workflows

Help develop better and more efficient processes with the team

Work with the production team on planning and adjusting level development schedules
