Nature and Scope
The Employment Consultant will work as part of the team that provides on-line virtual employment services to individuals who have been selected to immigrate to Canada and plan to pursue a career in the Skilled Trades, Engineering, and Construction sectors in Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Pre-Arrival Settlement Services, the Employment Consultant is responsible for the dissemination of information for participants relating to their occupation of choice in Ontario, as well as providing some information and orientation about their community of settlement as required. As part of a team, the Employment Consultant will assist in meeting the strategic achievement of all desired outcomes and targets. The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values, and participant outcomes.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
Intake, assessment, and case management with clients seeking employment in the skilled Trades, engineering and construction sectors through various communication platforms (voice, video and text)
Development of online training resources such as videos and written materials
Research specific occupations and industries to ease the transition for clients into their field or related fields
Researching points of service in each Ontario community as client prepares to settle in Canada
Providing employment consultation to clients and maintaining and developing career action plans
Assisting clients with job search strategies and making connections to local employers as appropriate
Making connections and referrals to settlement and employment service providers in client’s community of settlement
Assisting with outreach, marketing and client recruitment activities
Ensuring quality of the Y experience for program participants
Preparing all statistical and required reports and appropriate file documentation
Implementation of procedures for operation of programs within the guidelines and contractual obligations
Delivering online webinars and in-person workshops as requested
Ensuring that the data is entered properly and in a timely fashion in the Build ON internal
Access database and in the case management system (iCARE)
Leading special projects, such as newsletters, blogs, podcast, and/or other

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to speak, write, listen and secure information in a variety of settings. Ability to cooperate with others to achieve results. Ability to create and build relationships inside and outside the organization.
Teamwork: Participates actively in a team for program quality and effectiveness.
English and French, oral and written, with Other language skills are a strong asset
Post-Secondary degree or diploma in a related educational field
Experience in the settlement, employment counseling, and related fields
Knowledge of the Skilled Trades, engineering, and construction sectors in Ontario and immigration policy/procedures
Experience with diverse individuals, specifically immigrants, and employers in an employment context
High level of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Strong computer skills and ability to use online communication platforms
Superior problem solving, research, and creative skills
Ability to work with clients with diverse backgrounds and skill levels
Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion
